Health and Mental Well-Being Programs

The Junior League of Jackson’s Health and Mental Well-Being Programs are dedicated to promoting healthy living and mental well-being, equipping students to make healthy choices that support their physical and emotional well-being, including how to have a growth mindset and foster healthy relationships while addressing toxic stress, bullying, abuse, and neglect, and supporting safe spaces. Programs such as Making Connections Rewarding Success, Project R.E.S.I.L.E.N.C.Y., and R.E.A.C.H. focus on life skills, emotional resilience, and joy-filled moments for children in transitional or clinical settings. Initiatives like the McClean Fletcher Center provide specialized support for grieving youth and children

Together, these programs embody the League’s commitment to holistic well-being, helping children heal, grow, and thrive.

Making Connections Rewarding Success

JLJ volunteers operate a merit-based store, assisting students as they make purchases, stocking the store based on “wish lists” generated by students, and preparing and stocking welcome bags for children during the admissions process. Volunteers also host monthly birthday celebrations and arrange monthly programming featuring guest speakers to help youth develop critical life skills to use upon leaving Canopy.  Volunteers attend off-campus field trips with the children every nine weeks.

McClean Fletcher Center

Facilitator volunteers work with McClean Fletcher Center professionals to provide grief support to children ages 4-18 who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives. Outreach/food volunteers provide meals for children and families, greet and serve them before group sessions, and clean up afterward.

Project R.E.S.I.L.I.E.N.C.Y. (Restoring Earnest Support, Integrity, Love, Identity, Empathy, Nurture, & Courage in Youth) (Methodist Children’s Homes of Mississippi)

Volunteers provide activities that foster hope and healing through meaningful interactions, improve self-esteem and self-respect, and enhance life skills such as decision-making and other interpersonal skills helpful in school and in the workforce.

R.E.A.C.H. (Recreation, Enrichment & Activity for Children’s Health) (Children’s of Mississippi at UMMC)

Volunteers read, play, and interact with children hospitalized at Children’s of Mississippi. Through play, parties, games, and activities, volunteers make the patients’ time in the hospital more comfortable. Volunteers also help patients celebrate holidays in special ways.
