Summer Projects
The Junior League of Jackson’s Summer Projects provides enriching, hands-on learning experiences for children across the Jackson community during the summer months. Through week-long camps in partnership with local organizations, League volunteers engage children in activities that promote creativity, literacy, nutrition, and healthy living.
From arts-focused camps like Arts Explosion and Arts in Motion, to wellness and enrichment programs such as the C.H.A.R.G.E. Project and Read to Succeed, these initiatives offer both academic support and joyful exploration. By providing meals, mentorship, and meaningful experiences, JLJ volunteers help bridge the summer gap and ensure that children continue to grow, thrive, and succeed even when school is out.
Arts Explosion (HIS Heart Ministries)
Volunteers will provide a week-long summer camp for children ages 5-10 in the community surrounding Calvary Baptist Church. Activities are centered around art, music, movement, dance, drama, and beginning architecture and engineering. Volunteers also help teach positive eating habits and serve nutritious foods for breakfast and lunch.
Arts in Motion (A.I.M.) (Mission First, Inc.)
Volunteers provide a week-long summer camp on the campus of Mission First, exposing campers to all types of arts experiences, including crafts, drama, and music. They also engage in outdoor play activities. Campers are provided breakfast and lunch during the week of camp.
C.H.A.R.G.E. Project (Children’s Health and Recreational Gain Experience) (Salvation Army)
Volunteers support a week-long summer enrichment camp for children ages 6-12 at the Salvation Army Community Complex. Activities focus on nutrition and physical activity, and volunteers serve nutritious snacks and encourage healthier eating habits.
Read to Succeed (Mississippi Children’s Museum)
JLJ volunteers assist with a week-long summer camp hosted by the Mississippi Children’s Museum for JPS students who have failed their 3rd-grade reading test. Volunteers provide breakfast and lunch during the week of camp and assist with one-on-one tutoring of campers.
